Metphrastics
ekphrastic poetry about
the Metropolitan Museum of Art

Metphrastics is an online poetry journal inspired by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
We publish ekphrastic poetry responding to the Met’s permanent collection and select special exhibits.
What is ekphrastic poetry? Ekphrasis means “description” in Greek. Traditionally, ekphrastic poetry describes a work of art. It may also respond imaginatively to the work, situate the poet within it, or engage in some other way that expands the meaning of the original piece.
